The Mainz Mugunghwa Korean School held its 49th Korean Culture Experience Festival on March 16.
This event aimed to provide students with an opportunity to experience Korean traditions and culture, and to develop and utilize their diverse potential through experiences outside of academic studies. The festival featured student works, and an experiential learning event where students could enjoy dalgona and traditional games, creating a meaningful time.
Meanwhile, at the graduation ceremony, four students who had studied Korean diligently for 12 years at the Korean School were awarded certificates of commendation from the Consulate General in Frankfurt. Director Lee Ji-sun presented certificates of commendation to four students, Kim Jun-hee, Lee Min-ho, Lee Ye-hong, and Kim Jin-pyo, on behalf of the Consul General in Frankfurt, and offered words of encouragement to the students who had been learning Korean steadily for 12 years, and expressed gratitude to the teachers and parents who had guided the students well.

Event contents:
Traditional games: At the traditional games experience center, students had the opportunity to experience Korean game culture by playing various traditional games such as Yutnori, Jegichagi, Ttakjichigi, Baduk, and Janggi with their parents.
Calligraphy and Oriental Painting: In the calligraphy and oriental painting experience, students learned how to write their names in Korean on rice paper with calligraphy brushes dipped in ink, and also tried oriental painting of plum blossoms on rice paper to create their own works.
Traditional crafts: At the traditional crafts booth, activities such as making gold crowns from the Three Kingdoms period, decorating traditional fans, making norigae, and making traditional tops took place. Students were able to learn traditional crafts and experience Korea’s unique culture.
Making small kimbap: An experience of making kimbap, one of Korea’s representative foods, was also provided. Students experienced Korea’s diverse food culture by making small kimbap.
Dalgona experience: At the dalgona experience center, an experience of making dalgona was provided. Students were able to experience the charm of a traditional Korean snack along with its sweet taste. Alexandra Gil-Geers, the new principal of the Wilhelm Reuschner School in September 2023, helped a lot in preparing for this school festival. In her congratulatory speech, Principal Gil-Geers congratulated the school festival for promoting the Korean language and culture, looking forward to the collaboration between the Mugunghwa Korean School and the Wilhelm Reuschner School.
A graduation ceremony was also held for the graduates during this school festival, and four graduates were awarded diplomas and commendations from the Consul General of Frankfurt. Director Lee Ji-sun of the German Education Center attended the school festival and graduation ceremony of the Mugunghwa Korean School in Mainz on this day, presented the consul general commendations to the graduates, and congratulated the graduates who have faithfully attended the school for more than 12 years with a love for the Korean language and Korean history and culture, and cheered on their future.
Lee Min-ho, a graduate and grandson of former principal Lee Yong-hee of the Mugunghwa Korean School in Mainz, said in his address on behalf of the graduates that he enjoyed attending the school on Saturday mornings and that he made many good memories at the school.
Lastly, the Korean food buffet prepared with great care by the parents of the Mainz Mugunghwa Korean School provided a delicious and diverse Korean food, creating a fun and enjoyable feast for the participants. In addition, the students and parents enjoyed traditional Korean tea and snacks at the traditional tea house prepared by the school management, and chatted, promoting friendship among the Mugunghwa Korean School.
The 49th Korean Cultural Experience Festival of the Mugunghwa Korean School was successfully concluded with positive feedback from the participants. The students were able to experience various Korean traditions and cultures, and through this, they were able to increase their cultural understanding. In the future, the Mainz Mugunghwa Korean School will continue to support and host such events, playing a role as a treasure trove of Korean culture.
