Everything prepared for us! 2024 Mainz Mugunghwa Korean School Year-End Party
Saturday, December 16th, was the last class before winter break, and everyone was excited from the morning. During break time, one of the elementary school homeroom teachers came to the teachers’ office to have coffee time and said, “Today is the day when I have the most concentration ever!” Everyone was so excited that they laughed and said that.
Mainz Mugunghwa Korean School Year-end Party!
They invited all the students and parents to a buffet restaurant for lunch. Every year at the end of the year, the school management and teachers have a year-end teacher meeting and have a meal together. However, this time, they arranged this event with the intention of [giving benefits to everyone].
The reason such a big event was possible was thanks to the Mainz Multicultural Festival last September. Many parents supported the event by making delicious Korean food such as japchae, tteokbokki, kimbap, dumplings, rice cakes, kimchi, and assorted plates on the spot or at home, led by the parents’ association. For the past dozen years, I have sold Korean food at the Mainz Multicultural Festival, and what I have felt on site has been the same every year. Let’s prepare more food to sell next year!
This year, the interest in Korean culture and the popularity of K-Food have been even more evident. That is why I wanted to return 100% of the proceeds to our Korean language school students and parents.
When planning the event and making a list for reservations, I was really happy when almost every family expressed their intention to attend.
On the day, Principal Kim Moon-kyung said,
“I am happy to be with you all today, a special day where almost all members have gathered in one place.”
Today’s event is a year-end party prepared with the proceeds from the sale of Korean food sold by the Mainz Mugunghwa Korean Language School booth at the Foreigners’ Day event hosted by the city of Mainz last September. I hope that we can continue to meet, learn, and share precious moments here at Mugunghwa Korean Language School, and that we will continue to receive more support and cooperation for the development and happiness of our students. I hope that this year-end party will serve as a stepping stone for the bond between us at Mainz Mugunghwa Korean School to become even stronger.” He expressed his pride and gratitude to everyone, especially the teachers, parent representatives, and management who have been working hard together on the front lines.
About 100 students and parents gathered for a meal, and no one was particularly busy, just enjoying delicious food and conversation. On the way back, everyone said, “I’m so glad we had this event,” and “Thank you, let’s work hard and do it again next year,” and encouraged the management, which made me feel proud and happy. I was so happy to be able to treat the parents of our Korean School, who have worked hard for years without any compensation, to a year-end meal. And because of these parents of our Mainz Korean School, the management really enjoys working.
There is another good news for our Mainz Korean School. The number of students, who had decreased due to online classes caused by COVID-19, has decreased. Su-ga, after the start of the fall semester this year, almost 10 students have enrolled in a few weeks. We are also receiving continuous inquiries about admission. I am truly grateful and happy.
Our Korean school will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2025, the year after next.
I hope that Mainz Mugunghwa Korean School will continue to strive and develop in the future so as not to embarrass those who have worked hard before us.
