Introduction
Founding and Development
In 1975, through private initiative, parents of Korean background came together to introduce their children to the Korean language and culture. The beginning of our school was a purely private and voluntary effort and laid the foundation for our school today.
From that time, an association was founded and became officially registered on November 8th, 2014 with the name of “Mugunghwa Korean School eV”, along with its status as non-profit granted.
Today, the school/association has over 60 active members and 10 teachers, along with a management group for the school.
Our Goals
- The aim is to teach the Korean Language and culture to children and young adults
from Korean and German-Korean families who grew up in Germany. - The diverse events (school plays, day trips, outings, festivals, Korean holiday events, etc.) are intended to strengthen the solidarity and identity of children and young adults.
- Additionally, an aim is to share the Korean language and culture to interested non-Korean people.
Activites
In addition to the weekly lessons, which are varied, the association organizes many other events and also takes part in events around Mainz:
- At the “Intercultural Festival in Mainz” event, the school presents Korean food and culture with the help of parents.
- At the school festival, which takes place at the school in spring, various performances are presented by students. This is one of the school’s most important events. This day is particularly celebrated with families, friends and guests.
- Every year there is a picnic and sports festival for all students and their parents, where visitors and guests are warmly welcomed.
- Other annual events: Lunar New Year and Korean Thanksgiving Day, school-internal Korean language tests, open class and parent-teacher meetings, teacher workshops, flea market, barbecue party, St. Nicholas Day and others.
