Grade Levels
Kindergarten
The kindergarten class consists of 4 to 5-year-old children who are about to start school and are familiarized with Korean culture by speaking Korean and learning Hangul with their teachers. The aim of the class is to make learning Hangul vowels, consonants and writing vowels and consonants fun and exciting for the children without making them feel rejected by Hangul. The third period is a special activity time that focuses on various activities that fit the classroom theme, such as art class, nursery rhyme class and fairy tale class.
Primary School Classes
The primary school comprises several classes consisting of children from primary school years 1 and 2 and children from primary school years 3 and 4.The pupils can be divided into classes depending on the number of pupils. Classes are focused on breaking down the Korean alphabet, reading short texts such as sentences from daily life and fairy tales, improving reading comprehension and vocabulary through picture diaries, and learning to write according to their level. In addition, students will learn proper grammar and spelling in Korean through dictation and learn to listen to and understand Korean accurately through audio-visual materials.
Middle School Classes
The middle school classes consist of pupils of middle school age. Students can be divided into classes according to the number of pupils. They learn the correct grammar of Korean through various literary works and practice expressing their thoughts freely in Korean by writing on various topics. In order to make Korean language lessons, which are often neglected as students enter adolescence, more entertaining, we place more emphasis on stimulating interest in the curriculum, for example by introducing famous literary works and movies in Korean.
High School Class
In the high school class, students aged 14 to 18 speak Korean with their teachers, learn Hangul and are familiarized with Korean culture and history. And the subject matter of the class is not limited to Korean language and culture, but covers a wide range of topics including history and economics to improve vocabulary and provide quality learning. In addition, students present their own poems expressing their thoughts in Korean at school performances.
Korean as a Foreign Language
The Korean as a Foreign Language class focuses on instruction in the foundations of Korean language and culture. Students are introduced to the Korean spoken and written language through various exercises and activities, and are encouraged to use what they have learned to interact with other students, club members, and family.
Traditional Korean Dance
The Traditional Korean Dance class, one of the great prides of Mainz Mugunghwa Korean School, is taught by teachers who majored in Korean dance in Korea. Dance teacher Ms. Lee, Seunghee has been teaching since 2010 and has inspired us with showings at annual school festivals and the Mainz Intercultural Festival, along with being invited to various other events.
